For an area that is relaxed, tranquil and family friendly, but also has beaches just as beautiful as Ayia Napa, pay a visit to Protaras to check all the boxes – and then some. Fig Tree Bay is one of the most popular and beautiful beaches in all of Cyprus, and the jaw-dropping scenery never disappoints, making it a perfect destination for travelers of all ages. It is consistently ranked among the top beaches in Europe for good reason, and is named for the local fig trees that line its sandy shores.
Although the lovely beaches are the main draw in Protaras, tourists can make the short climb to the Church of Profitis Elias, which stands atop a hill with the blue waters of the Mediterranean as the backdrop.
Protaras also has some of the best dive sites for scuba divers to explore, including Cyclops Bay and Green Bay. Divers can even venture further out into the waters off the coast of Protaras to swim among the wreckage and ruins of the Nemesis III and the Liberty.
As the sun sets on your day of adventure, you can experience a traditional Cypriot meze for an amazing assortment of local delicacies and fresh fish, paired with local regional wines.
